Hello,
My name is Daryl and after years of thinking how much fun writing a blog could be I decided to take the plunge and start one! I am a former professional musician, current Senior Director, entrepreneur, author and Baby Boomer with lots of style and swag!
As we get older in life we have a tendency to feel the fun, adventure and creativity in our lives being replaced with fanny packs, mom jeans, white socks with dress shoes (or worse dress socks with tennis shoes!) and a “let’s just stay home tonight” mentality. I admit it, I am guilty of this too (not the shoe and sock thing just the stay at home mentality…remember I said I had swag!) and probably using this blog for personal motivation as well as bringing information to you.

Here’s some bio on me, I was born on the East Coast and moved to Chicago at the age of 2. I stayed in Chicago until I graduated high school at the age of 17. Attended College in Kansas for three fantastic years ( not academically but had great time partying!) where I was on the bowling team (I come from a family of bowlers) and met many lifelong friends.
I left school after 3 years and started working for a greeting card manufacturer where I stayed for 6 years. This was a major turning point for me as I knew my life had to be more than this…trading hours for dollars. I quit my job and started to play music professionally where I found some success playing across the country with my band.
From there I bought a recording studio and opened 2 independent record labels in the midwest. I learned a lot about turning failure into success during this time and it has served me well throughout my career.
I was lucky enough to sell the studio just before the digital recording platforms cut the legs from under most small recording studios in the country. People could now make quality recordings in their home for a fraction of the price.
So…I decided to go back to school and finish my undergrad and graduate degrees in Sociology. I have been working in the Private Foundation world ever since and enjoy that work tremendously.
That brings us to now..why this blog? I currently turned 60 and had a party at work where some of my new colleagues could not believe I was 60. They were saying you look mid 40s and your carry yourself like a much younger person. Ok…wait…lets be clear here…I am like a lot of my baby boomer cohort. I need to lose weight, go to the doctor more than I want to and from time to time become a bit of the curmudgeon we all exhibit periodically at this age.

But all that being said I have a youthful spirit and appearance which I believe comes more from attitude than genetics (if you believe it others will too). The reason for this blog is to invite you (Boomers and boomers in spirit) to reestablish an attitude that conveys youth and excitement. Style, adventure and swag can be your friend and I can share what I know and we can go on this journey together. Remember what Pablo Picasso said “Youth has no age”…I believe that..do you?
